UIL Gender Talks

Lifelong learning is a powerful tool that can equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to foster societies which are inclusive of all genders.

Lifelong learning is a powerful tool that can equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to foster societies which are inclusive of all genders. It has the potential to change people’s behaviours and mindsets, thereby laying the groundwork for gender equality across the globe.

Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right – it is also essential for allowing every individual to reach their full potential at home, at work and in public life, thereby promoting sustainable and prosperous development within their communities and on a global scale.

With Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5, the United Nations specifies the importance of gender equality for achieving socialeconomic and environmental sustainability. It is also central to meeting the SDG 4 education targets and is widely acknowledged as indispensable for realizing the remaining 15 SDGs.

It is against this backdrop that the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), in collaboration with the 'Institut français Hamburg, will launch the 2024 series of Gender Talks on Thursday, 14 March 2024 (see further details below).

Utilizing a comprehensive and inclusive approach, this new series of UIL’s Gender Talks aims to explore the intergenerational transmission of gender ideologies and roles. It will serve as an open platform to disseminate knowledge, exchange insights and galvanize collective action towards cultivating a more gender-inclusive society through lifelong learning.

In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, characterized by technological advancements and digital transformation, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into learning environments presents both remarkable opportunities and considerable challenges. This talk aims to explore the relationship between AI and gender equality in lifelong learning. By examining the multifaceted impact of AI-driven learning, discussions will focus on the complexities surrounding potential algorithmic biases and their implications for learning settings. Speakers and participants will discuss possible actions to mitigate these biases and promote inclusivity within AI-powered learning experiences. Another focus of the talk will be on how AI can be harnessed to tailor learning experiences to individual needs, thereby fostering a more inclusive and equitable educational landscape.
