Vision

Zivinice has adopted an integrated development strategy that aligns with the general goals of the UNESCO GNLC. For example, it has established a Centre for Business that provides support to young people to develop their entrepreneurial ideas and goals. It has also established a Department for Social Inclusion and a Commission for Gender Equality. The main goal of these bodies is to establish a system that will create a long-lasting self-sustainable environment. The overall aim is to provide a better environment for all of Zivince’s citizens.

Policies, plan and implementation

Sustainability and health
The city works collaboratively with the Centre for Social Work to introduce new users to the health system. In this way, people who did not have access to healthcare in the past are socially included. The city’s goal is to integrate the subject of health into its long-term goals and plans.
Equity and inclusion
Zivinice formed two commissions, one for social protection, care and inclusion, and the other for gender equality. These commissions work collaboratively with the city administration, the education system, citizens, and NGOs, to promote equity and inclusion. The Social Protection Commission reports to the City Council on a yearly basis.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
Zivinice is committed to supporting entrepreneurs and creating a better business environment – a goal included in the city’s development strategy. Zivinice was recognised as a city with a business-friendly environment in 2021 by meeting the criteria of the Certification Programme of Cities and Municipalities with Favourable Business Environment in Southeast Europe.

Good practices

Improving the business environment and skilled labour force
Zivinice established a local partnership with representatives of ministries, local agencies, city administrators, the employment bureau, and the private sector to provide schools with high quality equipment. This equipment is necessary for the practical education of high school students who will enter the labour market. The results of this initiative included a more productive labour force, increased satisfaction in the private sector, and increased economic growth.
