Vision

Amman seeks to strengthen its learning city qualities by providing continuous learning opportunities for all and developing a value system to guide daily life. The project ‘Amman Learning City’ promotes informal and non-formal learning opportunities in local communities and generates dialogue and interaction within those communities.

Policies, plan and implementation

Sustainability and health
The Jeera initiative aims to regenerate Arab culture by promoting learning in local communities. As part of this, the city makes use of unused and abandoned buildings to turn them into functional learning spaces and sustainably manage the urban landscape.
Equity and inclusion
The city has paid particular attention to empowering women. The establishment of the Women Creative Hub has supported women to gain information and resources to improve their economic and political opportunities.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
Recognising the difficulties of COVID-19 and its resultant impacts on employment, Amman has launched a digital literacy project to help citizens use the internet to find jobs.

Good practices

Digital literacy
The programme seeks to provide capacity building for citizens free of charge. Through this initiative the city aims at assisting citizens in learning about how to use the internet for accessing information and services such as finding jobs. It is also designed to raise awareness for using the internet safely and internet bullying.
Women Creative Hub
The Women Creative Hub in east Amman is an initiative to support the economic and political empowerment of women of all ages. It involves the sharing of best practices from women across different fields, to spread knowledge regarding opportunities and help engage attendees in city life.
