Policies, plan and implementation

Sustainability and health
The city raised awareness among community members to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, and disinfected schools and markets. Furthermore, a modern health centre with a number of medical specialties has been established as well as a lecture centre to educate patients about chronic diseases and the dangers of addiction. A physiotherapy centre for older adults and the injured has also been developed.
Equity and inclusion
The city notes how the country works to secure the right of every individual to have equal opportunities in education. As a result, the city works to combat discrimination in the field of education and remove any obstacles that prevent access to education.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
Al-Shamal provides venues for workshop activities and provides families with temporary shops to sell their products. The city plans to establish private schools that offer foreign languages, vocational training, as well as cooking, arts, and handicraft courses to increase opportunities for young people’s businesses. The city will also establish a science club designed to enhance the creative energy of youth.

Good practices

Together Hand in Hand
This campaign targeted school students in the north of Qatar to spread awareness about the importance of sustainable development and social responsibility. Lectures, workshops, and fieldwork were held on sustainability, nutrition, public hygiene, re-circulation, and climate change. Students also participated in beach cleaning campaigns.
Planting a Million Trees
Following the agreement on reducing carbon emissions and given the special importance of trees in the ecosystem and its repercussions on human health and quality of life, this initiative aims to support international efforts to tackle climate change and enhance environmental sustainability.
