Governing Board sets path for UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning in 2023
On 22 and 23 November, the Governing Board of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) met virtually to review the Institute’s work over the past year and adopt its work plan and budget for 2023.
Members of the Board expressed high satisfaction with the work of the Institute and particularly welcomed UIL’s strong performance in preparing and implementing the Seventh International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VII) and in launching the UIL Learning Hub providing online capacity-building to UNESCO Member States around the globe.
In light of the current global challenges, Board members emphasized the increasing importance of a holistic vision of lifelong learning and the necessity to underpin this vision by adequate funding at international and national level. A new fundraising strategy, which will guide further partnership efforts, was welcomed. Finally, the Board provided guidance for the implementation of future activities in the areas of lifelong learning ecosystems, skills for life and work, and inclusive learning in 2023.
The UIL Governing Board, currently chaired by Mr Daniel Baril, Director General of the Institute for Cooperation for Adult Education in Canada, consists of 12 members, drawn from every world region, who are nominated intuitu personae by the Director-General of UNESCO.
