Partnerships underpin planning and implementation of lifelong learning and are crucial to our work!
Two of our most important networks are the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities and the Global Alliance for Literacy. Furthermore, in 2022, the seventh International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VII) will bring together stakeholders from across the globe to forge new partnerships.
UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities
The UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) is an international policy-oriented network providing inspiration, know-how and best practice. The network’s mission is to support and accelerate the practice of lifelong learning in the world’s communities by promoting policy dialogue and peer learning among member cities, forging links, fostering partnerships, building capacities and developing instruments to encourage and recognize progress in building learning cities.
Global Alliance for Literacy
An estimated 765 million adults worldwide still lack basic literacy and numeracy skills – two-thirds of whom are women. Concerted effort is needed in policy development and financial investment to safeguard literacy for all, especially those from greater disadvantage. To this end, the Global Alliance for Literacy within the Framework of Lifelong Learning (GAL) was launched in 2016 to advance global literacy efforts and address challenges to promoting literacy around the world.
Seventh International Conference on Adult Education
From 15 to 17 June 2022, participants from across the globe came together for the Seventh International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VII). They took stock of achievements in adult learning and education, discussed challenges, and developed a new framework for action to make adult learning and education a reality around the world.
